Walking to the Bus Rider Blues
by Harriette Gillem Robinet

Living and growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1956 was not easy if you were an African-Amerian. Prejudice, unfair laws, and segregation were all characteristics of a cruel, broken "System" in our country.

Alfa and Zinnia live with Big Mama during that time when African- Americans finally have had enough. Through the leadership of Martin Luther King, Jr., Alfa learns to put the power of nonviolence and Biblical love into action to solve his problems.  His own dream of becoming a doctor along with his expertise in science help him to solve a mystery before it destroys his life.

Historical fiction doesn't get any better than Walking to the Bus-Rider Blues by Harriette Gillem Robinet!

"I have a dream that one day...little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.... I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I think December 5th is an important date for all of us in the U.S. to remember. The bus protest carried on by the colored people of Montgomery, Alabama, without violence, has been one of the most remarkable achievements of people fighting for their own rights but doing so without bloodshed and with the most remarkable restraint and discipline, that we have ever witnessed in this country. It is something all of us should be extremely proud of for its achievemnt by Americans which has rarely before been seen." Eleanor Roosevelt

"Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die." ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
