Living and growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1956 was not easy if you were an African-Amerian. Prejudice, unfair laws, and segregation were all characteristics of a cruel, broken "System" in our country. 

Alfa and Zinnia live with Big Mama during that time when African- Americans finally have had enough. Through the leadership of Martin Luther King, Jr., Alfa learns to put the power of nonviolence and Biblical love into action to solve his problems.  His own dream of becoming a doctor along with his expertise in science help him to solve a mystery before it destroys his life.
