We live on what's the most way up spot there is.
Pert near not 'nother livin' soul lives anywheres around
Unless you count the shy wild critters
And hawks that wing circles in our sky.

So, when that Book Woman pops up on our mountain,
To say we are surprised is an understatement, for sure.
Her poppin' in on that first day, changes my life
Like nothin' ever done in the past.

This is my story...the story of my family,
Just a poor family in the Appalachian Mountains
In the 1930s,
And the Book Woman,
A Pack Horse Librarian,
Who risked her life
To bring us a kind of treasure
That is only found inside the covers of books.
Books that made me a lifelong reader.

Written, for the most part, in short lines, dialect, and spare, first person narration, the story can easily inspire its reading as a dramatic monolog.
