The
Strange Case of the Origami Yoda Tommy's sixth grade friends struggle with relationships. Well, actually, they are considered by many to be social outcasts. At the school dances, they sit on the stage and watch the other kids dance. Dwight presents a special challenge to himself and others. His nextdoor neighbor knows that he sits in holes in his back yard, and everyone else has seen him do other strange things. But, he has skills! For one, he is an origami expert, so when he brings his Origami finger puppet to school, no one is surprised. What does surprise them, however, is the fact that Origami Yoda gives good advice. As they start trying out his wisdom, Tommy, in particular is amazed and is dying to get Origami Yoda to tell him if Sara likes him. He even starts a case study of Origami to study what he's told others and to put the finger puppet's wisdom to the scientific method test. Because Harvey is a doubter and belittles everything about Dwight and his Origami Yoda, Tommy is allowed to write his own skeptical notes on everyone's case studies. Kellen decides to draw funny pictures on each one. Will Tommy's scientific case studies reveal whether Origami Yoda is for real or a hoax. Get ready for silly fun in The Strange Case of the Origami Yoda, a story that will tickle just about everyone's funnybone. Language Alert! Beware. The language in the story stretches the bounds of good manners with favorite phrases containing "butt," "fart," and "pee" occurring often, probably because they are the extent of these boys' vocabularies. Too, they help ignite emotional responses. We are sure our boys never talk like this. The Kids' Wings literature guide invites group discussion, problem solving, research, writing, skill building, and authentic writing prompts, a culminating interactive Jeopardy-type game.
