ROADWORK
by
Sally Sutton,
illustrated by Brian Locklove
If
you worked to help build a road, what would your senses tell
you? You would HEAR people shouting orders to one another. You
would SEE the huge machines and HEAR their grumbling as they
moved the earth and pushed and scraped a new path for the road.
You would FEEL the ground shake. You will SMELL the exhaust
from the machines and the paint being sprayed on the road.
The
words and rhymes in ROADWORK
by Sally Sutton will make you feel like you are part of the
fast-paced roadwork team. You will enjoy
the rhythm of the the rhymes and will want to sing along with
their onomatopoeia to complete the rhyme on each page.
The
Kids Wings unit for ROADWORK
will help you work together like a noisy, reading roadcrew.
Here is how it begins:
Narrator
1: We are going to build a road.
Narrator 2: Set your marking pegs.
Group 1: Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap!
Narrator 1: Start your engines on your machines.
Group 2: Rrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Rrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Narrator 2: Together now. (Groups 1 and 2
say their parts together.)
Narrator 1: Scoop the dirt. Make a path!
Group 3: Scoop! Bang! Bump! Scoop! Bang! Bump!
Narrator 2: Together now. (Groups 1, 2 and
3 say their parts together.)
READ THE REST IN FLYING HIGHER! |
After
you have finished your reading and your road, you can read about
machine facts in the end notes. The most fun you'll have is
reading it again and again with a noisy friend.
